Construction

Room to Breathe gardens will construct your garden using the best available materials and to the highest standards of workmanship.

Room to Breathe Gardens have strictly defined codes of practice:

  • Minimum depth of concrete is 150mm – this forms the base for everything in the future and should last for the lifetime of the property. Room to Breathe Gardens will not offer 75mm of concrete laid directly over picon. We believe that, in time, this will lead to cracking, loose tiles and other problems.
  • Steel reinforcement grids are supported to be positioned in the middle of the concrete slab, not laid directly on the underlying surface. This, again, ensures the long-term integrity of the slab.
  • All electrical cables and irrigation pipes are placed in protective conduit.
  • The slab is poured at one time using pre-mixed concrete. This ensures that the concrete mix is consistent across the whole slab and reduces the risk of stress induced cracking due to uneven drying.
  • Room to Breathe Gardens uses only skilled construction specialists – this ensures work of the highest quality

There are plentiful supplies of materials available to individualise your garden. There are a fantastic selection of floor tiles, cut stone, natural stone, coloured picon and wood, which can be brought together in various combinations to give the “feel” that you want.

Room to Breathe Gardens hold samples of many of the materials available and are constantly seeking out different sources.

We would be pleased to offer advice in this very important area of design and construction.
