Irrigation Systems
To keep your new plants watered when you are away and to save the expense of regular watering by hand, Room to Breathe Gardens can fit a fully automatic irrigation system.
A well-designed irrigation system supplies a measured quantity of water at regular intervals to each plant, varying the amount supplied to different types of plants where necessary.
It is common in Fuerteventura for plants to be watered with “grey” water. This is filtered sewage water that is recycled solely for this use, conserving the valuable fresh water supply. Used correctly, it is a safe, albeit smelly, way to water plants and should always be used instead of fresh water.
Irrigation systems enable the grey water to be used. If you are using a hose or watering can, you should always use fresh water because “grey” water is not nice stuff to spray around. For this reason, we would never recommend the use of spray nozzles when using “grey” water. We always use drip feeders, which direct the water to the plant roots in total safety. |
